Breakfast Cassarole

Breakfast casserole is a dish typically made with a combination of eggs, bread or potatoes, cheese, and various other ingredients, such as meat, vegetables, and spices. It is a popular breakfast or brunch option that can be prepared ahead of time and baked in the oven.



 Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of oil or margarine 

  • 6 slices of bread


  • 8 eggs





  • 2 cups of whole milk or heavy cream

  • 2-3 potatoes

  • 1 Bell Pepper chopped

  • 1 tsp of mustard


  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic powder


  • 1 teaspoon salt 


  • 1 teaspoon pepper


  • 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese


  • 1 pound of (450g)breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled




Optionally you can add sliced green onions, diced tomatoes , chopped fresh herbs

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) 

2. Choose and grease from oil or margarine a 9x13 inch baking dish.

3.Place and arrange bread slices in the dish as a single layer and sprinkle the cooked and crumbled sausage over the bread slices. Thereafter top with shredded cheddar cheese. 

4. In a large bowl mix together eggs, milk, mustard, salt and pepper until the ingredients combined well.

5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread , sausage and cheese in the baking dish. Press down gently to ensure the bread is soaked in the liquid. You can also cover the dish and refrigerate overnight at this point if you want to prepare it ahead of time.

6.Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. You can test for doneness by inserting a knife into the center - if it comes out clean, it's ready.

7.Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. If desired, garnish with sliced green onions, diced tomatoes, or chopped fresh herbs.

Note: You can add vegetables like onion, mushroom and green onion for added flavor. Also, feel free to use any type of bread or meat of your preference.
